Mahakaleshwar-Victory Of Devotion Over Demon

“Akal Mrityu Vo Mare Jo Karm Kare Chandaal Ka, Kaal Uska Kya Kare Jo Bhakt Ho Mahakaal Ka”

Mahakaleshwar is one of the most popular Hindu temple which is located by the Rudra Sagar Lake in the Ujjain district of MP.It is located in the middle of Ujjain city and is said to be one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Mahadev.Devotee believed that Shiva resides here in the lingam form and one more thing which make it unique is ,it is among the top ten tantra temple in the world.

I am fond of Shiva, previously i also shared my unforgettable journey of Somnath. As today the whole world is celebrating the day of Mahadev. So i thought to express my love to him by recalling my mahakal darshan.

One of my friend told me abouth the charismatic aura and power of diety, she said that those who visit the temple never have to face sorrow and also their sins get washed off .With all the faith and devotion in heart ,I also wished that someday Shiva will call me and assure me with wish fulfillment.

And that lucky day came,I got the chance to visit his holy place. As we all know that key higlighter of this temple is the ancient rituals which are performed by the saints and devotees to honor the god. These rituals include Bhasma Aarti .This aarti ceremony starts before sunrise in order to awaken the god.During this aarti sacred ash which is specially bought from the ghat is applied to the idol. This ceremony takes place everyday. But sadly I was not able to attend this aarti as there is pre-booking for this arti and my trip was totally unplanned, and my schedule also not matched with the timings.May be sometime in futute will feel that aura of bhasma aarti.

As we all are human so its natural to be curious,so was I to know about the history of jyotirlinga. It is believed that there was a boy(Shirkar) who saw king of ujjain(Chandrsena)worshipping lord shiva everyday. The boy saw his devotion and decided to worship for Lord Shiva. He took a stone and started worshipping it by considering it a linga. People thought that all this was like a game which the small boy was playing. As his devotion increased every day, Lord Shiva assumed Jyotirlinga form and resided in the Mahakal forest.

It is also believed that there was a demon, Dushana who attacked all the residents of Avanti. Seeing all this, Lord Shiva appeared from ground and he defeated the demon. Then, all the inhabitants of Avanti requested Lord Shiva to stay there. Upon the request of the people, Lord Shiva took permanent abode as Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. That’s the reason Mahakaleshwar is also know as the religious abode for some spiritual solace.
