My New Burmese Affair

On a pleasant cloudy day as always by maintaining his uniqueness my boss take us for a lunch party to “burma burma” .We got a chance to taste the burmese food for the very first time.

When I got to hear that “Burma Burma” is quite popular in a butter chicken dominated market (DLF Gurgaon) where there was no space for a vegetarian, no-alcohol restaurant, that too serving Burmese food which we don’t necessarily understand or love.

This restraunt is pure bliss for vegetarians, serving authentic burmese food.It was my first experience, so we all thought of taking some experts advise as the host had experience of their best dishes so he guide through the menu for the better choices of dishes. And for their newly member to burmese family they have a sort listed menu which include best dishes from starter to desert.

The place is done tastefully mostly in brown and earthy tones. Be it their Menu Card or the big bells hanging from the ceiling or the artwork on the walls, it all looks understated and beautiful.

We started with Samosa Soup & Lotus Stem Crisp– the samosa was different filled with spring vegetables and spiced black chickpeas – it can be called as samosa in Burmese style.Till having this dish we all think India reserves the rights to Samosas? But now i knew it has been mistaken. Samusas, the Burmese Samosa is a popular street delicacy that you now can enjoy at Burma Burma! It is a tangy soup with cabbage, carrots and capsicum with two pieces of Samosas that is mildly softer than its Indian counterpart. With a filling of chickpeas, some lentils and vegetables, this fried pastry is a true blend of Indian and Burmese cuisine. And The lotus stem was finely sliced and super crisped – they were like eating chips dusted with paprika and curry leaves.

I am not a salad person but after some persuasion, I agreed. The second thing that arrived was Salad Sampler – which consisted of 3 small version of salads – Tea leaf, sunflower leaves and Raw Mango(very different and yummy). Overall the Sampler was great, A guy like me who don’t like salad finished my share in one go.

Then we had Tohu Mash with Paratha – Tohu is a cousin of tofu (lol) – cooked with tomato, onion and spices, served with Malabari Paratha – they call it as Burmese style flaky paratha. And a Burmese burger which is actually a Brown onion and roasted chilly bun ( little more of spices).

From the main course, Shewdagon Khowsuey was the most memorable dish. Every bite of this curry based noodle dish was full of flavor – at times even contrasting flavors that worked very well together. Khow Suey, almost a catch-all term that denotes all kinds of noodle and coconut broth dishes is here to stay. Cousins of the South East Asian one-pot meals, khow sueys have a greater debt to coconut than any other noodle soup and feature a tangle of noodles buried under mountains of condiments. Floating on your broth are shards of fried onions and garlic, crisp potato filaments, chopped mint and coriander, all under a cloud of peanut dust. And I have to say it was the best dish among all.

We wanted to leave these flavors on our tongue for some time, but couldn’t resist trying their desserts. Though one of us totally dig the Tagu Pyi An-(A traditional burm, eses sago cooked with palm jaggery served with coconut custard). And other surprise was Smokey Avacado And Honey Caviar Ice-Cream- smokey flavor of this ice cream was oh-so-smooth in texture as well as flavour.

It was my first experience with the Burmese food and I would say it was amazing from the start till the end. The dishes I tried were very original as told by my expert friends who have good knowledge of Burmese food and in spite of being hardcore non-veg we were enjoying our meal like any other vegetarian. This was a very different and succulent experience. One must try the place I would say.

One thing which I enjoyed about this place is that over incite benefit with which everything was occurring. The administration was top class and dishes were following each other in the blink of an eye by any means! We would truly to thank the administration for such a subtle lunch in general!

EAT NEW FEEL NEW🤗
